The coast where the sun lasts longer

The Costa del Sol, in southern Spain, with its over seventy golf courses, which have been the scene of important tournaments such as the Spanish Open or the Ryder Cup, it has rightly been renamed the golf coast.

The Andalusian coast is the brightest land in the nation, gently soothed by the sun in winter and bathed in splendor in summer, it is the ideal setting for golfing all year round. You will be able to enjoy a unique experience, thanks to the presence of refined high-profile accommodations and suggestive views, from the untouched sierra with its majestic hills to the blue expanses of the Mediterranean.

Golf between the Sierra and Thousand and One Nights palaces

Starting this journey through the Andalusian realms of golf from the east, one immediately finds a wide range of choices from various destinations throughout the province of Malaga. Among the most fascinating playgrounds is the Alhaurìn Golf, in Alhaurín el Grande, about 22 km away from Malaga airport.

It is the work of one of the main sporting glories of the past, Severiano Ballesteros. It consists of eighteen holes scattered along a course that crosses the wild environment of the Sierra de Mijas between towering mountains and pine forests. Sport is pleasantly combined with the possibility of a luxury stay for fans, thanks to the services offered by the club resort or the elegant five-star Higueron Hotel, located in nearby Fuengirola and part of the prestigious Curio Collection by Hilton selection.

Less than 20 km away, in Mijas, there are three golf courses designed by Cabel Robinson, different in difficulty and design, the three “continents” of “Asia”, “Europe” and “America”, harmoniously integrated into the spaces’ natural landscapes of the Sierra de Ojen.

The first of the three is the oldest in the La Cala Resort complex, designed to test the strategic skills of the most experienced player thanks to the clever arrangement of bunkers and water obstacles. Corso Europa, on the other hand, consists of a medium-level field, inserted in the fabulous landscape dominated by the green of the surrounding lush flora, where the flow of the Ojén river resounds, crossed by five bridges that allow you to connect the different areas of the game course.

The America course concludes the triad with a splendid and wide fairway full of interesting challenges and raised greens, able to satisfy the most experienced golfers.

They are the real Elysian fields of Hispanic golf, housed in the complex of the princely oasis of La Cala Resort, where you can enjoy maximum well-being, from finely furnished rooms, overlooking the Andalusian countryside, to the Mediterranean flavors of high-quality cuisine that is proposed.

Golf overlooking the sea, between ancient cities and luxury hospitality

The Marbella Golf & Country Club, located just five minutes from the city center of Marbella, approximately 52 km away from Malaga airport, is one of the most complex and exciting courses on the Costa del Sol, thanks to the clever placement of obstacles. and the wavy design, created by the celebrated designer Robert Trent Jones Sr. You can play while admiring the blue surface of the sea in the background, surrounded by the fragrant Mediterranean scrub.

A short distance from Marbella, there are places of considerable interest, worthy of being visited during the period of stay on the coast. From the fashionable Puerto Banùs, with its beautiful white sand beaches and renowned nightlife venues, to the quaint old town of the city of Estepona, formed by the typical white houses adorned with flowers of the region.

Between Marbella and Estepona you can find the Flamingos Golf Course, designed by architect Antonio Garcia Garrido, a large expanse of greenery overlooking the Mediterranean on the horizon. It is located in the complex of the majestic Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Resort, surrounded by rows of trees of different species and embellished by the presence of a lake, various works of art, and a characteristic Roman amphitheater. In the city of Estepona, on the other hand, there is the refined El Paraiso Golf Club, designed by Gary Player and for over forty years synonymous with quality in the field of facilities dedicated to the sport of golf. The panorama offers spectacular views of the sea to the south and Mount La Concha to the north.

The temple of Spanish golf at the gateway to Andalusia

The wonderful journey through the consecrated places of Spanish golf can ideally be concluded on the western territory of the Andalusian coast, in the city of Sotogrande. It is located about 15 km away from Gibraltar airport and is home to the Real Club Valderrama. The field, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., is considered among the best in Europe with its 6418 m of greenery that penetrates countless cork oaks. The numerous city centers of the province of Cadiz, to which Sotogrande itself belongs, are not to be missed, rich in culture and history, where you can breathe the purest Andalusian atmosphere between Arab and Latin tradition.
